“We needed a pitcher like this” Tanner exceeds expectations with less than 100 pitches…and extreme efficiency

“I’m going to cut him down to 90 or so until he gets used to it.”

The NC Dinos’ newest foreign player, Tanner Tully, is 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA in five appearances. Against the Changwon Kiwoom on July 7, he pitched seven innings of two-hit ball with one walk and four strikeouts. He threw just 84 pitches. It was his first start of the season that went longer than seven innings, but he finished the game efficiently.메이저사이트

Any other foreign pitcher could have given Tanner another inning, or even a complete game. But NC didn’t expect much from Tanner. He just wants to be efficient and produce the best results in his role, and the club is creating an environment for him to do so.

“Tanner hasn’t thrown 100 pitches yet,” said manager Kang Myung-hwa before the Changwon Lotte game on Aug. 8. Until he gets used to it, we’re going to keep his pitch count in the low 90s.”

As Kang explained, Tanner had never thrown more than 100 pitches in Triple-A before joining the NC this year. His most was 95 pitches. Most of the time, he’s been replaced within 90 pitches. We’re taking that into consideration. Even in the KBO, Tanner’s longest outing was 95 pitches (six scoreless innings) for the Samsung Electronics on April 1.

Still, Tanner is looking for optimal efficiency. He doesn’t need a 150+ mph fastball to compete with hitters. With a fastball in the low 140s and a sweeper as his weapons, he continues to pitch efficiently.

“It’s encouraging to see him pitch so many innings in a fast-paced game,” Kang said. I felt he was the pitcher we needed. I had expectations, but he exceeded them,” he said.
