As part of his dominance in June, Choi hit home runs in three consecutive games, from the 22nd against Doosan in Jamsil to the 24th against Samsung in Munhak. He also hit back-to-back home runs on the 1st and 23rd to boost his hitting stats.
Thanks to his home run explosion, Choi also ranked first in RBIs (27) and OPS (.787). He was second in runs scored (23), fourth in on-base percentage (.431), and posted an OPS of 1.218, putting him near the top of most of his hitting stats.
With 448 career home runs, Choi is on pace to surpass Lee Seung-yeop (formerly of Samsung, 467) as the KBO’s all-time home run leader before the end of the year if he keeps up his current pace.
For being named MVP in June, Choi will receive a cash prize of KRW 2 million, and a KRW 2 million donation will also be made to his middle school, Pyeongchon Middle School, in his name, courtesy of Shinhan Bank.
